Chamber operas in Bulgakov Museum were performed several times. “Phantom of the Opera in Bulgakov’s house”, a unique creative project was launched in 2005. (The author of this Project is Irina Sirenko, the senior researcher in Bulgakov Museum.)
M.Bulgakov was the passionate fan of music. He himself described how important music was in his life and work: “The need to listen to music is in my nature. I adore good music. It inspires my creativity”.
Thus, a unique and innovative opera project fits the best into the space of the memorial “house of amazing design” and recreates the atmosphere that surrounded the future writer. The project reflects the main concept of the museum as a home, with its diverse, rich and creative life.
The first opera was performed on May 15, 2005 on Master’s birthday. The favorite Bulgakov’s arias were performed by soloists of the National Opera of Ukraine: those from the “Faust” by Charles Gounod, “The Queen of Spades" by P.Tchaikovsky, “The Demon” by A. Rubinstein, “The Barber of Seville” by G.Rossini (Director: Tatyana Zozulya).
The next phantom of the opera appeared in house #13 in October, 2009. Director Larissa Levanova staged “Orpheus and Eurydice” by Christoph Willibald von Gluck in a chamber version specially adapted for Bulgakov's house. The vocal parts were performed by the students and soloists of the P.I.Tchaikovsky National Music Academy of Ukraine.
The chamber opera by Vitaly Gubarenko “Tenderness” or “Love Letters” (1971) based on a novel of H.Barbusse (director – Larissa Levanova, singing – soloists of the Kyiv Municipal Opera House) was performed in the exposition “The Master and Margarita” on September 25, 2010.
